23 - The End

Yes, I would want to participate in another learning program like this because me an oportunity to explore the new technologies, in addition to teaching them. I think self-learning with clear goals is important. I enjoyed so many sections of this exercise. Using rss feeds has proven to be quite a time saver, and I have lined up a long list of feeds in my Bloglines account. Using Library Thing has helped me organize my personal collection of books. Using YouTube has opened my world to so many opportunities. It is quite addictive. Podcasts is useful especially on an iPod.

22 - Audiobooks

I looked at our Digital Media, and went through the steps to download a book. I tried using the simple search, but I received no results. It was much different using the advanced search. The list of subjects was varied enough to help me in my search. I tried performing a key word search which returned a variety of media materials, not just audio books but video and ebooks too. I liked the format. It was easy to read the entries. It was good to see an abstract with each entry which made choosing easier. Too bad, there is not an equal service of abstracts with all our book catalog listings.

21 - Podcasts

I did not like searching using Podcast.net. The directory could not search for phrases well. I had more success with Podcastalley, and was able to find several libraries with library news podcasts. I added one called the Library Channel to my Bloglines account. Adding the feed was easy enough.

20 - I Tube, You Tube

I chose an old Christmas video being the time of year that it is, "Do You Know It's Christmas Time?" I always loved that tune especially the driving beat, but I never saw the video before this time.

As far as features for libraries I liked the "Promoted Videos" and the Featured Videos." The Queens Library already has videos on YouTube why not feature them on our web site instead to show library activities and also to showcase library services which could transform customer questions from "Where do I go for this or that" to specific questions about areas such as the Gallery or one of the subject divisions such as Business, Science and Tehnology or Fine Arts and Rereation.

19 - Discovering Web 2.0 Tools

I decided to try Yelp. You can use either the key word search through the Search for box or you can search by the category. I searched for "reading groups" near New York, New York. The search resulted in mostly bookstores and cafes. One cafe actually showed that they hosted reading groups than it searched on groups which brought up Central and Prospect parks for some reason. A category search for "active life" broke the categoies down by county or subcategory for active life and also shows the top five sites, four of which are parks for the active life.

6 - More Flickr Fun

The Colr Pickr is pretty wild. You pick a color and then you see photographs for that color, and then can click on the photo itself to see an enlarged photograph. There are hundreds of different photos among the colored whole and you can also choose from lightest to darkest settings to choose photographs. I am amazed at what can be done in Flickr, and how limitless are the possibilities for arranging photos using Flickr.

#5 - Flickr

I included this link because it made me think about traveling away from the city to a far away place where I can discover new things. Here, we have the photo of a very old abandoned house which looks odd in its decrepit condition. There are trees around the sides of the house. One is a very tall tree which looks picturesque. In a way it is as differently defined as the structure is, and I wish I was there taking the photograph, smelling the fresh country air and not hearing any cars, just being as one with the nature surrounding me.
